In Magic: The Gathering, is it possible for a creature to take more damage than its toughness score?

For example, if a 1/2 creature is dealt 3 damage by a Lightning Bolt, does it really take 3 damage? Some cards "copy" damage dealt to creatures and deal it to the player, too. So in this case would I take 2 or 3 damage?

The 1/2 creature would die and go to your graveyard. You would not take any damage because the Lightening Bolt targeted your creature. Lightening Bolt does three damage to target creature OR player, not both.

Creatures take all the damage that is dealt to it. It doesn't matter what the damage is. If the 1/2 creature was hit with a lightning bolt, it will take the 3 damage. It will die but it will have 3 damage against it. This is vital because of cards like Stuffy Doll. The doll is 0/1 but all damage dealt to it is sent to target player. So if you hit the doll with Shivan Meteor, the doll will receive all 13 damage but redirect all of it to the target player. Earthquake is a great combo with Stuffy Doll since it essentially deals double damage to the targeted player.
The only difference is if it blocked a creature with trample. If your creature (1/2) blocks a creature with trample (3/3), then your creature will only take 2 damage and the 3rd damage will trample over to you. Trample only deals damage equal to the blocking creature's toughness, then all other damage is dealt to you.

The creature takes three damage. If a creature is dealt damage equal to or greater than its toughness then that damage is referred to as "lethal damage."
EDIT: Which is why Corrupt was a sexy Black direct damage card. You can deal 13 damage to a 1/1 and gain 13 life, which is something you couldn't do with Drain Life or Soul Burn.

The creature would only take damage not you and it will be sent to the graveyard for lightning bot is higher than the toughness of the of the 1/2 creature.

Yes it is posible. A creature can take any amount of damage. It is just that if the damage is greater or equal to its toughness, the creature will be destroyed.
In your example, you will lose 3 life, because your creature took 3 damage (and it will also be destroyed).

The creature takes 3 damage because even as an instant if you add +1/+1 the creature will still die, stack or not.
