Here is many cases to explain trample:

1)you attack with a 6/6 creature with trample you opponent blocks with a 2/2 creature and does nothing else. The 2/2 creature takes 2 damage and the opponent takes 4.

2) you attack with a 6/6 creature with trample and your opponent blocks it with a 2/5 and a 2/2, you distrubt 6 damage among each creature how you choose and no damage is done to the opponent.

3) you attakc with a 6/6 creature with trample and your opponent blocks with a 3/3 and then before damage is declared casts a giant growth on that creature (+3/+3). That creature is now a 6/6 your creature deals 6 damage to it and none to your opponent. It deals 6 to your creature.

Flying has no effect on trample, trample has no effect when blocking. The basic premise is that once the creature deals damage equal to the blocking creatures toughness if there is still some power left it keeps going and dishes out damage to your opponent.

colorless mana can be paid using any mana from any source (the only exceptions will be clearly explained on the card)

hope that helps

Ex. you attack with a 5/5 with trample, opponent blocks with a 3/3, the 3/3 dies and your opponent takes 2 damage, it works this way regardless of flying. The excess damage is dealt to the other player. Flying creatures are considered to "swoop down" when blocking a non-flyer.

The trampler is dealt normal combat damage from the defending creature. It's like normal combat, except if the power > toughness, the difference is dealt to the other player. If two creatures block a trampler, you choose how to distribute the damage among the blockers. It would be wise to deal all damage to the creature with the least toughness so trample damage goes through. If more than one creature blocks, the attacker is most likely dead either way.

Unless the mana text says "only use this mana for [something], you can use that green mana for any generic cost.

The above examples are pretty good examples of how Trample works. But its important to remember that you have to deal lethal damage to each creature blocking your creature in order to deal Trample damage. You can't simply deal lethal damage to one creature and send the rest of the damage to your opponent. Trample doesn't really affect creatures at all. It affects the defending player. If they can't block with enough creatures with suitable toughness to absorb all of your creature's power then they will take the difference in Trample damage.

Uncolored costs can be paid with any color mana or colorless mana. Colored costs can only be paid with colored mana.

I suggest you go to http://www.wizards.com/magic/rules/MTG9EDRulebook_EN.pdf and read the rulebook. It explains stuff like Trample and mana costs in detail. Also, go to http://www.wizards.com/magic/comprules/MagicCompRules061001.doc to read the Comprehensive Rules. Its kind of long but it explains stuff in painstaking detail. The Comp Rules are for when situations get weird and you need a definitive answer. Go to http://ww2.wizards.com/gatherer/ if you want to look up individual cards and rulings.
