get cards that allow you to get lands out, like Woodland Elves, or that allow you to add mana, like Llanowar Elves, Birds of Paradise, Dryad Arbor, Life and Limb, etc. Draw cards - Harmonize, Psychotrope thallid (tokens and draw). Finally some defense, like Fog...

Ok, a couple basic things, just like in writing you can bend the rules slightly as you gain more experience, but rules exist for a reason: 1. Restrict your deck to 60 cards. 2. Start building using no more than 2 colors 3. Use 24 lands in a ratio based on the colors you choose 4. Build around a concept (what do you want the deck to do?) Pick cards that help your concept and don't hinder it (for example if you want to play pyroclasm it's usually a bad idea to be running creatures with low toughness. 5. Think about having a mana curve. You want to be able to do something in the earlier rounds of a game. Have a good ratio of 1cc spells, then some 2 cc, and then some 3 cc...don't become too enamored with the incredibly high casting cost decks. If you are sitting in a game for 5 turns and can't cast any of your powerful spells you usually die. Keep the curve in mind. That's it for now. If you provide specific cards, and the format you're playing (standard, extended, etc) I could probably be more specific.

If you have mono green do you have squirrel nests in it? It is a great enchant land that lets you tap the land to produce a squirrel token. Then if you add an Alter of Dementia, that will let you sack any token that is about to die anyway to remove one of your opponents cards. Okay your probably thinking these are somewhat useful suggestions but they don't drive to the heart of your question. The last card is Earthcraft. This is a restricted card in type 1 I think so you probably should limit yourself to one of them and hope for it or add some search or draw or something. But Earthcraft lets you tap a creature to untap a land, and squirrel nest lets you tap a land to produce a squirrel. Bam, infinite squirrels. And if you have your Alter of Dementia in place then everyone has no library left, everyone but you. And at the beginning of their next turn - when they try to draw- they die. As for search I remember an top of some kind out of the kamigowa block. A divining top or some such that was a good low cost way of searching your deck. Of course if you were trying to make it type 2 legal then I was of no help at all.

Sakura Tribe Elder is a good way to get lands out quickly. That was one of the "must haves" for green decks during the Kamigawa block. Personally, I like Elvish Piper, it lets you play a card from your hand for free.

I used to run a Saproling deck back in the day. I want to say Invasion block. Here are some of the cards I had in my deck:

Coat of Arms (creatures get +1+1 for each other creature with that type in play.)

Night Soil (pay one and remove 2 creatures from ANY graveyard from the game to put a 1/1 saproling into play)

Elvish Farmer (each turn put a counter on him. remove three to creat a 1/1 saproling. sac a saproling to gain 2 life.)

Rith the Awakener (If he deals damage pay 2 and one green to choose a color. Put a 1/1 green Saproling into play for each permanent of the chosen color)

Saproling Symbiosis (put a 1/1 saproling into play for each creature you control)

Sporogenesis (each turn put a counter on a non-token creature. When it goes to the graveyard you get 1/1 sparolings equal to the number of tokens. This effect multiplies if there are more than one Sporogenesis in play.)

Abundance (when you draw choose land or non land. keep drawing until you find a card of the chosen type. Put it into your hand and put the rest on the bottom of your library in any order. *Note - if you don't have the kind of card you choose in your library, you can reorder your deck however you want and set yourself up for the win.)

Elfhame Sanctuary (you can either draw like normal, or search your deck for a land during your upkeep)

Verdeloth the Ancient (Kicker X, Treefolk and Saprolings get +1+1, if you paid the kicker put X 1/1 Saprolings into play.)

Nemata, Grove Guardian (tap 2 and one green, put a 1/1 saproling into play. sac a saproling, all other saprolings get +1+1 until end of turn)

I realize you're playing mono-green, but if you have Birds of Paradise, Utopia Tree, or even Channel the Suns, Rith will come out pretty easily. (Or you could use that Piper I mentioned earlier.)

Here are some cards to help speed your deck up:

Overgrowth (enchanted land produces an extra two green when tapped)

Scouting Trek (search for any number of lands. Shuffle your library and put the lands on top in any order)

Summer Bloom (play up to 3 extra lands this turn)

Sylvan Scrying (search your library for a land and put it in your hand)

Untamed Wilds (search your library for a land and put it into play)

Wild Growth (enchanted land gives you an extra green mana)

A good way to cycle through your deck is the Psychothrope Thallid/ Saproling Cluster combo. Thallid says sac a saproling to draw a card. Cluster says discard a card to create a saproling. As long as you can keep tapping one mana for each time you want to do it, this can help you get what you need quickly.

mod. it so its a mana excelerator deck, its what i have out. try things like Rampant Growth and cards other answers have mentioned. sometimes i have twice the mana my opp. does.

also, a must have in your situation is Overgorwth. it an enchant land card, when that land is taped, you add two green to your mana pool, so to sum it up...one green mana becomes three green mana.
