I have been playing Yu Gi Oh for a long time now and I think it is a lot of fun. The problem is I don't know the basis to a good Yu Gi Oh deck. I have a wide variety of cards and I am particularly fond of elemental hero cards but I am open to suggestions. Anyone have any tips for me. Thanks

Start with your basic staples (Mirror Force, Solemn Judgment, Bottomless Trap Hole, etc) think of the ones that will fit your deck the most

Go with theme; whether it be monarch's, blackwings, machine, lightsworn, etc.

Think of the cards that will work with this deck the most

Keep it at about 40

Play around with it, no deck is perfect until you deck-test it.

Alternatively you can just find a deck online(net-decking)

I agree with Spena.

I've been out of the game for over 2 years now and I decided about 3 days ago to start playing again. All the time I've spent so far has been deciding on what type of deck is best for the result that I'm trying to achieve. I want to be able to stand up against whatever is meta (meta means whatever the hell is used by most people nowadays) and it needs to be fast and powerful.

So I did some googling (google is your bff here) and my eye landed on beatdowns. I'd made a vanilla beatdown before, so I figured it would be fun to play with.

I ended up choosing an anti-meta skilldrain beatdown which basically means I get a lot of powerful monsters that are easy to summon but have bad or semi-bad effects when you do get them on the field easily, and then you negate their effects (turning them into powerhouses) by using skill drain.

Basically, what you'll want to do is dig and find a nice theme that suits you, then check out what kind of decks people have constructed around this theme, get a feel for what they're trying to accomplish with the cards, and then edit it or create your own from scratch.

I find it easy to use YVD (google it..) to browse through the giant list of cards. It also has a search function and a built-in banlist so you won't have to worry about accidentally adding too many copies of a card.

Hope this helps you get started.

Um... I have no idea what an elemental hero is, I stay with the classics like dark magician and all the older guys. Im not sure how much the game has changed but im sure the older guys are cooler and stronger.

Before going into tournaments its best to do some research. Sites like http://forum.tcgplayer.com/forumdisplay.php?f=6

have forum where they help people create Casual to Tournament style decks
