I play Magic, and I don’t think of myself as a nerd. (Perhaps I’m being overly optimistic…) However, I can suggest a few good decks for you.

It all depends on the format that you are playing in. The easiest to access format is called standard. This consists of the latest two blocks and the most current core set. (Right now, Standard consists of cards from Lorwyn, Morningtide, Shadowmoor, Eventide, Shards of Alara, and Tenth Edition.) Great decks to play are Faeries (Little blue fliers that ride the broken 2-mana tribal enchantment to victory) Doran Rock, (My favorite deck of choice. I play it in every format. Doran, a virtual 5/5 creature, can come into play on turn 2, literally breaking your opponent’s backs. Turn 2 Doran is very very hard to recover from.) and Quick & Toast (5-color control deck that mixes a manabase from hell consisting of all of the colors of magic, counterspells, plus whatever you want, since you can play any color in there.)

In Extended, which consists of the last 6 years or so of Magic cards, there is ElfBall (Green Elf Combo deck that produces a horde of insects that provide the win condition) Affinity (Evil robots with high mana costs that happen to come into play for free if oyu have enough artifacts in play) All-Out Red (turn 1: Play a Mountain, get up to five mana, cast a huge creature. Turn 2: Opponent concedes.) Swans Combo, and a lot more.

In Legacy, there is a whole range of decks. The most fun to play with, and the most broken, at least in my opinion, is Dredge. (Step 1: Get most of your deck into your graveyard. Step 2: Do nasty things by sacrificing 3x Narcomeba to flash back Dread Return, reanimnating a huge creature along with a horde of zombies that beat in for the win.) There is also Stax (Stack every single card that increases mana costs against your opponent, kill off their lands, then beat them down with a very small creature. There are a lot more decks in Legacy, but I don’t have room to go through them all.

Finally, there is Vintage, a fantastic format. In this format, every card is allowed, and cards are not banned but restricted. Decks often win on turn one or two, making the player not sure whether losing the dice roll will make them lose the entire game.

If you need any of these decks explained in more detail, simply ask it in another question or contact me through Y! Answers. I’ll be glad to help you out.

Hope that Helped!

Well, the newest decks tearing up the Standard scene are Faeries, Kithkin Aggro, 5-color Control, Blue-white Control, All-In Red, and Naya Aggro.

Of those, the most fun are Kithkin Aggro, All-in Red, and Naya Aggro.

I recommend building a deck yourself. I personally love the blue red combination, and i typically use 12 mountain cards, 12 islands, 18 blue spells, and 18 red spells

My favorite type of deck is an all-fire, burn type deck. burn decks are fun because they focus on trying to take out your opponent in your first few turns. some really good burn decks can whittle an opponent's life from 20 to 0 in as few as 2 turns! Some burn decks don't even have monsters in them, becuase who needs mosnters to defend your life points if you win in less then 5 turns? it's dangerous because if you don't take them out fast and the match drags on longer you may not make it, but many deck types aren't prepared to fight burn decks in the first place, because they do damage so quickly. another nice thing about burn decks is you can make a good one using cards that don't cost more then 5 dollars, so it really saves your wallet. it may not kill in two turns but it's often enough to win.

what is a good way to get an infinity power infinity toughness creature (and my friends actually banned this because it also has an infinite mana loop and we were playing planes chase) you need these:

1x kiora's follower

1x thassa's ire

1x hero's bane

2x market festival

1x chariot of victory (optional)

enchant a land with 2 market festivals. pay hero bane's ability with the enchanted land. tap kiora's follower and activate his ability to untap the enchanted land. now use the enchanted land to pay thassa's ire's ability to untap kiora's follower. now you have one mana left over. now tap kiora's follower to untap the enchanted land. use the enchanted land to pay thassa's ire's ability to untap kiora's follower. now you have 2 mana left over. repeat this process and keep paying hero's bane's ability to double his power and toughness. (optional) then equip chariot of victory to hero's bane and he is an infinite/infinite with haste, first strike and trample. enjoy :)
