Yu-gi-oh! Cost or Effect? Trance Archfiend?

Question

Recently me and my friend looked trough the cards for the next series called Order of Chaos. We saw the monster called Trance Archfiend and had a dispute about whether or not the discard a card from your hand was a Cost or and Effect (Cause and Resolution).

Trance Archfiend Effect::
Once per turn: You can discard 1 Fiend-Type monster and have this card gain 500 ATK, until the End Phase. When this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 of your banished DARK monsters; add it to your hand.

There are no current rulings at Yugioh Wikia and we need help to solve this problem.

It's not a cost. Read up on Problem-Solving Card Text. If there is no semi-colon (;), then there is no cost. Costs and targeting requirements are always after a colon (:) and before a semi-colon (;).



By the way, with how things are going, Konami will probably ever release another official ruling outside of individual email rulings and Judge Forum rulings. With the introduction of PSCT, they feel there is no longer any need to.

1. Romance of the Blades (it's an X-Saber deck) 2. Dragon's Roar (the first deck I ever made, B-E W D) 3. I'd make Pot of Greed limited rather than banned 4. I have made many cards on yugiohcardmaker, I made a series of cards that were all from Dragonball Z, i tried to make their effects make sense for the particular characters, there were of course, the fusions, and the super saiyan form cards were synchros, here is one of the fusions, the strongest card in the series- Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta Light Attribute Saiyan-type / Fusion / Effect 10 star 3200/2900 "Super Saiyan 4 Goku" + "Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta" A fusion summon of this card can ony be conducted by returning the above fusion material monsters to your Extra Deck(you do not use Polymerization). if this card battles a non-Dragon Type monster, destroy that monster without applying damage calculation. If "Kamehameha Wave" or "Big Bang Attack" is equipped to this monster, you can equip it with the respective other from your deck or hand. This card returns to your extra deck your 3rd end phase after summoning, you can then special summon 1 "Super Saiyan 4 Goku" and 1 "Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta" from your extra deck. 14. I believe it's a cost, but don't quote me, because I think you discard when you declare the effect. this means that you will still discard even if the effect is negated somehow.
