The best token decks I've seen use quick, cheap spells to get disposable tokens onto the field. I'll provide card and combo options based on what I've seen work well in the past (and ones that are just plain fun, too).
White is, in my opinion, the best-stocked color from which to draw your arsenal. Green is another sturdy option for slower, more hilarious token games. As I'm assuming legality is irrelevant, I'll list some of the best token-friend spells from white, green or both.
First, let's begin with the creatures, who actually take a bit of a backseat to the creatures that YOU shore up:
Twilight Drover - a classic from the Ravnica expansion, tailors itself to supporting vast armies of tokens.
Cloudgoat Ranger - a bigger white giant, he's 4 creatures for the price of one.
Emeria Angel - a newcomer to the archetype, she can bring in a 1/1 Bird every time you bring a land in.
Icatian Crier - a cheap and efficient creature which turns an irrelevant card in your hand into two able 1/1 Citizens.
Rhys the Redeemed - A natural and very inexpensive choice, he is a token generator who, at the right moment, can double up your army.
Selesnya Guildmage - An easy cast and essential for an important reason - his token creation requires no tapping and therefore is a great place to throw unused mana at the end of the turn.
Llanowar Mentor - A green cousin of Icatian crier, a discarded spell or land gives you a Llanowar Elf.
Wolfbriar Elemental - Another new face gives you a 2/2 Wolf for each extra green mana you spend on casting.
Imperious Perfect - A truly mind-boggling green creature in Limited play, this makes tokens and makes 'em bigger.
Tolsimir Wolfblood - More of a top-end kind of card manawise, this guy buffs all your tokens, and produces a 2/2 (well, make that 4/4) token of his own.
Verdant Force - One of my favorites. He's big, he's lovable, and he makes a token on every upkeep. That's right; EVERY upkeep, not just yours.
The key to a token deck, though, is what it does in real life - clog up the table until you swing for 492 damage in one swing. To do that, spells are your best weapons.
Spectral Procession, Scatter the Seeds, Conquerer's Pledge, Martial Coup, Bestial Menace, Howl of the Night Pack...each of these give you more than two creatures for your one card, which is the strength of a token deck. Along with other strong token-minded cards, like Seeds of Strength, Glorious Charge, Wrap in Vigor, and Dryad's Caress, a token's best allies are enchantments. Ones like Leyline of the Meek, Glare of Subdual, and the like can pump your guys just in time or shut down the opponent. Never forget the help of a planeswalker, either. Out of them all, Garruk Wildspeaker and Ajani Goldmane are by far the most condusive to success on the battlefield.
Lands are also essential to success. Things that preserve your life and tokens are crucial. Choosing Sanctuary of the Vitu-Ghazi gives you the options to get that token you need just in time. MUCH harder to kill than a creature! Also, Pendelhaven turns that wimpy 1/1 into a respectable 2/3. Not a bad surprise.
Finally, one of the most rewarding moments in a token game is when you can swing all (which for a good token deck, should take several minutes to complete). If that is your choice, don't leave home without a pocket Overrun or Predatory Focus to make sure you punch through. Still need some help? Tip the scales with the ever-hilarious Storm Herd (you get a 1/1 Pegasus token with flying for every life you have) or Biorhythm (each player's life becomes the number of creatures they control). Out of creatures? Too bad! Use them in reverse order for added nonsense. Chant of the Vitu-Ghazi can save you in a pinch, converting each drop of would-be damage (both yours and your opponents creatures, so block up!) into life for you.
I hope this has at least provided some ideas to further your game. Token decks can be made with stuff you can pick up from the 5 cent bin, or with the best chase cards on the market. The key is bleeding your opponent of useful cards on your relatively worthless tokens. When they're staring down an impossible army, you'll know exactly what I mean. Happy shuffling!
