reading tarot card are way safer then messign around with a ouija board. despending on how much you know about the ouija baord.
get a lot of questions from website visitors asking me for tips and advice on using the ouija board. This is honestly a difficult question to answer since there's no real concrete way on how to use the board and get it to work - I think it's just luck! But here are a few tips I was able to come up with:
Have an open mind. If you believe the board isn't going to work, it probably won't.
Be serious, but not too serious. You don't want to giggle and laugh hysterically, but it is OK to have fun with it. Some people even think laughter attracts spirits/ghosts.
Limit the number of people playing. Try not to have more than 4-5 people touching the planchette at once. If you have more than 4-5 people who want to try it, just take turns.
We usually light a candle or have a small flashlight on. This is mainly so we can see what the board is spelling out, but it also adds an eerie effect and helps put you in the ouija mood!
Don't try to contact anyone specifically. A good question to ask is "Is there anyone in the room with us now?". You shouldn't fully believe that the spirit you're talking with is really who they say they are.
Don't fully believe/act upon anything the board spells out. In my opinion, this is the only dangerous part of using an ouija board. Think about it - this is a board game...why in the world would you take anything it spells out as 100% true?! Just have fun with it, don't look at it as some super powerful tool.
Gwen Vetter, a website visitor, told me that burning a sage scented candle while using the board will keep away evil spirits. Sage is believed to have a cleansing property, so this makes sense. Thanks so much for sharing this tip, Gwen!
Some people claim that saying a protective prayer/spell is a good way to get results. Here are some prayers my friend Michelle found in a book that are supposed to help with the ouija board:
Invocation for Creating a Sacred Space (say before using the board):
Dear Spirit,
As I light these candles, bless this sacred place.
Let the light of their flames radiate love and protection to all four corners of this room.
I ask at this time that any negative energies be released from this space.
With a bath of white light, I ask that it be cleansed and neutralized.
Turn my dwelling into a sanctuary.
May it be the foundation for your teachings and the inspiration for my higher perceptions.
Invocation for Protection (another one to say before using the board):
Dear Spirit,
As I sit with you now, I open my heart.
I surround myself with the love and light of your protection.
I release any negativity that I have picked up throughout the day so that I speak to the universe with the purity of my soul.
I ask that any energy (information, healing) be given for my absolute good.
Dismiss now all energies that are not of the Highest and Greatest source.
As I bathe in your grace, I will listen to your resounding voice within me.
I will be true to my hear and your gentle guidance.
(you can follow this with a moment of appreciation for the universe...)
Invocation for Closing Your Connection and Your Sacred Space (say this one after you've finished using the board):
Dear Spirit,
Thank you for sharing this sacred time with me.
I appreciate the flow of energy I have just experienced.
I will use it for my highest good.
As I blow out these candles, I close this sacred space, and ask that your protection surround me wherever I go today.
I've never tried using any of these prayers, so if they work please let me know! In December 2005 I received an e-mail from Maria, a website visitor, who said they worked for her - you can read her story by clicking here.
Trish Fogle, a website visitor, sent me a GREAT list of tips:
If you are worried about attracting bad spirits, you should make a write of protection and read it outloud, or use one that is given with the booklet that comes with the Ouija, if it has one. Something ideal would be like, "I invite those spirits who are only for my highest good. Any spirits who come through who are NOT for my highest good are to be absorbed into the white light of protection, harming none."
You should envision a white light of protection. Also, candles are good, preferably white candles, but don't light too many, because it may attract too many spirits and you may not be able to have an uninterrupted conversation with one spirit because other spirits will be attracted to the light and will want to come through to talk. Burning Sage is also good.
Always be in a good frame of mind, and be positive while using the Ouija. If not, you can attract unwanted negative spirits.
Do not use drugs or alcohol while using the Ouija.
Always be respectful while talking to spirits, even if they seem hostile or unfriendly. If you curse or are disrespectful to them, it is just going to egg them on and/or make them angry, therefore you may not be able to get rid of them. If there is a spirit that you are afraid of, or a spirit who keeps interrupting messages from other spirits to be rude or insistant that you speak with them, you can politely tell the spirit that you do not wish to speak to them at that time and ask if it is alright for you to talk to them later. If they say no, and are still instistant, you can try to mentally block them either by saying your Spirit Guide's name in your head over and over, or you can end the session and move the planchette to "Goodbye" and say, "I release you to go back to where you came from."
Always remember that spirits do not always tell the truth. Tricksters, who are often liars but mostly harmless will sometimes lie about even the smallest things. Mostly they like to joke around and not be serious. If you ask them questions they will give you bogus answers. This does not always mean they are bad spirits, just mischievous ones. Mostly they are just annoying. Spirit Guides will not lie. As far as I know, other spirits cannot pretend they are your Spirit Guide, although sometimes while talking to your SG the message can be interrupted by another spirit (usually a trickster) and won't make sense. The planchette usually feels different too. Chance and I always recognize right away that it's no longer our SG we are talking to. If you're unsure of who you're talking to, ask their name. If you do not wish to speak to that spirit, politely ask if you can talk to whatever spirit you were talking to before.
Trish also said:
"Most of my experiences with the Ouija have been great and are fun. In my opinion there is no reason to fear the Ouija, as long as you are sensible and make it clear that you are only willing to speak to those who are for YOUR HIGHEST GOOD ONLY, HARMING NONE. I am greatful that I am now aware of my SG. It makes me feel good to know that I have a protector and someone to watch over me. My conversations with my SG are always wonderful and heartfelt. If there are people who don't know anything about Spirit Guides, I recommend doing research on the web and reading about them. It can change your life and have a very positive outcome."
LaCocoLee sent me a list of helpful tips too:
ALWAYS move the planchette to GOODBYE when you're done talking. Otherwise, the spirits can and probably will inhabit your house freely until you do so.
NEVER ask a spirit to do anything outside the ouija board, such as make a sound or move an object. This gives them the right to leave the board and roam around freely, doing anything they want, which is almost all the time a bad thing.
NEVER give full trust to somebody on the ouija board. They can and probably will trick you if you do this into asking them to do something outside the ouija board.
If a spirit moves the planchette to anything that even looks like it might be spelling out the word hell, demon, devil, or anything having to do with sinister nature, SAY GOODBYE. Do NOT allow them to finish the word, NO MATTER WHAT. Even if you think they're a spirit guide. If you allow them to spell out the sinister word, they ARE evil, and WILL try to harm you terribly. Take my advice, DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO SPELL THE WORD.
Drawing a circle around you and the ouija board can help protect you from evil spirits, though no guarantee.
Liz W. also sent me some information that might be helpful if a spirit you're talking to keeps going to the number 666:
"It comes to my attention that for some reason people are very afraid off the number 666. Maybe it would be helpful for them to know that it's a fairly meaningless number. Sure, people commonly believe it to be "the sign of the beast, (Revelation 13:18)" or the Devil. This simply isn't correct. "666" is a mistranslated number, which is understandable as old Hebrew is difficult to translate. The real number in question is "616." Even then, when it's talked about as being a sign of the beast, the beast is Nero. Don't get me wrong, Nero wasn't a particularly nice man (burning Christians seems pretty naughty - especially since they wasted a perfectly good fire by not bringing marshmallows/disturbingly weird joke), but he's not the Devil.
That information can be found in pretty standard books by scholars of Christianity. I found it in Why Do Catholics Do That: A Guide to the Teachings and Practices of the Catholic Church by Kevin Orlin Johnson, Ph. D. (p 258 in the Ballantine Books 1995 edition). While I don't profess to be Catholic at this point in my life, I do believe that he's more than likely correct about the number in question.
That said, if a spirit is using "666" it's probably safe to assume that they don't really know what they're talking about OR that they're pulling a twisted joke. Furthermore, (and I haven't caught this in the stories on your site yet, but have read it in the past) people who talk about "666" coming up in their readings and then talk about the Devil being in their board REALLY lack credibility with the (apparently) not common enough knowledge about 666."
I received even more helpful tips from Heath, a website visitor, in April 2005:
If the planchette goes to all 4 corners, end the session. It is an "evil spirit".
If the planchette moves off the board, the spirit is "freed" from the board. In other words, the spirit is in the "house" or area... But I'm not sure about this, because it is already around, being that you contacted it. So this one confuses me.
If the planchette starts to create a figure 8 pattern, end the session.
To end a session, simply say good bye, and FLIP the planchette and the board over. Most times we don't say goodbye, we just flip it.
The more people that are touching the planchette, the faster it will go, because it has more energy to feed off of.
In August 2005, I received an e-mail from Julia Huddle with even more tips:
Use a ring of salt around the circle of users. This is supposed to protect and contain the group away from spirits.
A piece of pure silver on the board also helps.
For positive results, a positive state of mind is required. Alike energy attracts.
You should not use a board if you're over tired, ill or weakened in any way. Unfriendly spirits will take advantage of this.
In September 2005, I received even more tips from Ariel Spear, another website visitor:
Placing a pure silver coin on the board will help keep away unpure, "evil" entities.
Making your letters in a circle also helps to keep positive entities within the board.
Do not let the spirit travel fully through the alphabet (IE. a-b-c-d-e etc.) or through the numbers. If it does this, flip the board...the spirit is negative and wishes to escape.
Spirits like flowers and water, they like water because it represents movement, which in turn represents life, death, and the afterlife.
When you're starting out, first always try to find out who your spirit guide is.
Sometimes the spirits don't speak your language, so it is important to write down what they are saying in case it comes out in an odd kind of order, IE "jared" might come out as "jrade" or something like that.
On October 1, 2005 I received an e-mail from Blaque with some great ouija tips (although, I wouldn't recommend using blood!):
"When you play ouija, be sure to light white candles and place them around the room. Then draw a large pentagram in blood on each of the four walls. Pray, cleanse, do what you will. Look up ways to bless your board and rid evil spirits from your home...all the help you need is on the net, you just have to find it!"
I also received an e-mail from Jennifer Feuerstein in October 2005, with her ouija tips:
"I'd also ask the younger users of the Ouija to be careful, not only are they more inexperienced but they also tend to be more sensitive. Also, a tip, stay in control of the board and remember to tell the spirits "thank you" when you're done. You'd hate to be bothered and not thanked for the time. I also probably wouldn't ask it anything about your death if you really don't want to worry about it later. It can lead to a little thing called "self-fulfilling" prophecy. Basically means: the board said something about a car crash on a foggy night - you start thinking about it driving in the fog, stop paying attention, and hit the tree.... Take it all with a grain of salt and have fun.
On a side note, have you noticed that with most of the "bad experiences" people didn't like the Ouija game or were expecting something, like a sign. Those who were expecting nothing usually had good experiences..."
On October 27, 2005 I received an e-mail from Maddy Larsen with one of her ouija tips:
"I would recommend using the Ouija board outside - it usually works much better for people if they've never used one before. Also, if you really believe something evil will happen, it won't be stuck inside your house."
In December 2005 I received an e-mail from Casey Nelson with some more tips:
"I have had many experiences with spirits and what I have learned is that 'hell' and 'the devil' do not exist, but if you are getting bad spirits possessing your board, saying the Lord's Prayer and then burning the board has usually worked for me. Or you could try lighting a match and then dropping it inside the glass that you have used and wait for the match to burn out. If you have used just a piece of paper as a board then it helps if you tear it up and burn it inside the glass you have used."
I also received an ouija tip from Lazzyhorse in December 2005:
"If a evil spirit/demon/devil has control over an oujia board, flip the planchette over and use it that way."
In January 2006 I received an e-mail from Tammie with her ouija tips:
To get rid of an ouija board, break it into seven pieces and sprinkle with holy water...then bury it!
If you try to burn an ouija board, whoever hears the board scream has 36 hours to live - DO NOT BURN OUIJA BOARDS!!!!!
If using a glass planchette, always cleanse by holding over a burning candle.
Never play alone.
Never play in a graveyard.
Sometimes an evil spirit can permanently inhabit a board so no other spirits can contact.
Purposely move the planchette around in a circle on the board for a moment or two to get it "warmed up".
Always say a prayer to welcome the spirit.
I also received an e-mail from Owen Haydn in January 2006, with a HUGE list of ouija tips. To see his suggestions, click here (the list was just too big to add to this page!).
In April 2006 I received an e-mail from Crystal with her tip (that I don't necessarily agree with):
"My advice to you is to destroy the board. Not only that, but do not buy into the crap about you cannot close the door. A spirit attempts to feed off your emotions. That's why you hear about people with ouija boards and other magics getting posessed, while people who are devoted to God remain safe. You need to do a couple of simple things. Get a Bible, say the Lord's prayer, then ask for forgiveness and protection. You may also want to sprinkle salt around your house in a circle for purification. Salt is well known as a purifier. That easily."
In June 2006 I received an e-mail from Joseph with a couple ouija tips:
"I find that if you write down what you want to happen during time you spend talking to the spirits on a piece of paper and then burn it on a candle it helps you communicate with the spirits. Also, incense works just as good as sage."
