Let's say I have 1 face down card which is Blast with Chains trap card. which when activated is an equip card to a monster and it gains 500 atk points. My opponent activates a Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy my Blast with Chains card. Am I allowed to activate the Blast with Chains trap card and equip my monster or does speed spell come into effect here, taking into consideration that Mystical Space Typhoon is a quick play spell and Blast with Chains is a normal trap card?

Yes, you are allowed to activate Blast With Chain. because you are chaining it to the effect of MST. This is how it will go:

Your opponent actoivates MST to destroy your set Blast With Chain, you then chain it to MST by activating it and equipping it to your monster. Blast with chain will resolve first, giving your monster 500 ATK points, because it was the last card activated in the chain. Then MST will destroy Blast With Chain, allowing you to use its desturcution effect. Spell Speed does not come into play because Quick-play and Normal traps are the same speed. Spell Speed 1 only consists of Normal Spell. Spell Speed only applies when you start a chain. To chain against a spell speed of 1, you will need a spell speed of 2 or higher. To chain against a spell speed 2, you will need a spell speed of 2 or higher. To chain a spell speed of 3, you will need another spell speed 3.

Spell Speed 1: Normal Spells

Spell Speed 2: All Traps except Counter traps, quick-play spells, trigger effects, multi-trigger effects, etc.

Spell speed 3: Counter Traps

No, Mystical Space Typhoon will kick in first. Blast with Chains is treated as an equip, and like all equip cards, if it is destroyed, then the extra points from the spell get taken away. So basically, your card is destroyed and the effect is not activated.

So afetr your friend polays MSt to try to destroy your blast with chain (BWC) u can chain it because they both have the same spell speed. After it gets destroyed, u can kill a card on the field. Hope i could help.

It's all dependent on what card is activated first. In situation one, if Jar of Greed was PREVIOUSLY set the last [duh] turn, and your opponent activates Mystical Space Typhoon on it, you can activate Jar of Greed for a chain. In situation two, if you used Dust Tornado FIRST, and your opponent chains Mystical Space Typhoon, then your effect would resolve first because it was activated first.
